R4Robotics team defends regional title, takes home top award at robotics competition

A great article from KRQE about R4 Robotics’ 2019 victory at the 2019 Regional B.E.S.T. competition.

“So all the power lines were down, the entire power grid was down. We needed to replace the substation transformers and the residential transformers, and help the linemen in that way,” said Reva.

“We are thankful for the support of our community, particularly the Center For Hands-on Learning and Anchor Point Church. Both organizations donated space for our growing team to utilize during our fall season,” said Dr. Gruening in a statement. “This year was an end of an era as two of our seven seniors have been a part of the team since it was founded in 2005. The win was a fantastic way for them to leave their mark on the program while they build skills and experiences that will help them to launch their lives!”

R4Robotics, the Rio Rancho Robo Runners, advanced to compete in the TXBEST Regional BEST Robotics Championships on December 5-7, 2019 in Frisco, TX. The event brought together over 80 top teams representing more than 450 teams that participate in the program from Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Arizona to compete.

Comprised of 52 students, ages 7 to 18, the community robotics team comprised of homeschool, private and public school students defended their championship title and brought home the top award at the event, First Place BEST Overall. In addition, the team won First Place Marketing Presentation and had a perfect score for their First Place Exhibit Booth.

"We are thankful for the support of our community, particularly the Center For Hands-on Learning and Anchor Point Church. Both organizations donated space for our growing team to utilize during our fall season." shared Coach Gruenig. "This year was an end of an era as two of our seven Seniors have been a part of the team since it was founded in 2005. The win was a fantastic way for them to leave their mark on the program while they build skills and experiences that will help them to launch their lives!"

The competition impacts every student that participates. Victoria MacMillan was a first-year team member who shared about her experience. "Not only was I with an amazing team, but I also got to do something that challenged me. I have always loved engineering, and when I was in Dallas for BEST Regionals, I realized that was the path that I wanted to pursue."

R4 wants to thank all of its generous sponsors. The team would not be able to compete if it wasn’t for community sponsors that have supported their efforts since the team began in 2005. If you would like to join the team in their initiative to make more STEM enrichment available to students in the community, follow their Facebook Page: We R4 Creating.
